The Culture of Christ

What type of culture would Christ endorse?

Ephesians 6:12

  • We have to remember that in our conversation about Endorsing Culture Humility and Oneness, that we’re not in battle with one another.  We’re engaging in spiritual warfare.  We’re fighting to keep satan from getting a foothold in our church.  Its not about white fragility, white privilege, or critical race theory.  We’re fighting for the culture of Christ.

Acts 2:42-47

  • Every nation under heaven was there to celebrate The Festival (or Feast) of Weeks.
  • They were so grateful for God’s grace, mercy, forgiveness and salvation that no one had to tell them how to be God’s church.  They immediately enacted the culture of Christ.
  • This is the goal!  God’s church is the solution, not the world, not government.

What’s going on today is not new.  It was something that other spiritual men and women had to deal with.

Jonah 1:1-3; 3:10-4:5 & 11

  • Jonah did not want to preach to the Ninevites (Assyrians, modern day Iraq, city of Mosul).  Jonah believed that God’s grace and mercy was reserved for the Jews.
  • Jonah was still hoping that God would not show them grace and mercy. He was angry that God had shown them mercy and was concerned for them.

John 4:4-9

  • The relationship between the Jews and Samaritans was strained because of a deep rooted prejudice.
  • Jesus broke that barrier.  He showed the culture of Christ.

Acts 6:1-4

  • Grecian (Hellenistic) Jews were being overlooked because these Jews embraced Greek language and culture.
  • The church decided to deal with this head on.  They entrusted the Grecian Jews to handle it.

Galatians 2:11-14

  • Paul opposed Peter because of his hypocrisy with how he acted between the Jews and Gentiles.

1 Corinthians 12:12-27

  • We are one body!  We need to feel each other’s pain, empathize with one another and carry each other’s burdens. This is God’s vision.  This is the culture of Christ.

Matthew 10:1-4

  • We cannot allow the culture of politics to infiltrate the church.
  • Matthew was a tax collector who agreed with Rome and enjoyed the fruits of being a tax collector.
  • Simon was a Zealot who wanted to violently overthrow the Roman Government.
  • Jesus was able to bring these two political ideologies together.  These men would lead God’s church.
  • These men understood that you can’t serve two masters, you can’t serve God and politics.  They recognized that when Jesus said that “we must give up everything to follow him” that he meant EVERY SINGLE THING!

Galatians 3:26-29

  • This is who we are!  We are citizens of God’s Kingdom.  Our allegiance should not be to an ideology or political party.

1 John 4:7-12

  • This is the culture of Christ

Revelation 7:9-12

  • This is God’s vision! We are citizens of the Kingdom of Heaven!
