Thomasene  A. Smith is a native Athenian. She was educated in the Clarke County School System. After receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing; she served in the Athens community by working at Athens Regional Medical Center, Athens Clarke County Health Department and as a school nurse in the Clarke County School System.

During the summer of 2008, she felt enlarged lymph nodes in her neck. The test were positive, she had Stage 4 Atypical Peripheral T-cell Lymphoma, a rare blood cancer.

Since that time she has been through five different cancer treatments. Her medical provider has been searching the National Bone Marrow Bank for the last three years, a donor match has not been found. Thomasene’s illness is aggressive and the need is URGENT! Please join us in finding a donor for Thomasene. There is a donor drive this week to help find Thomasene a donor. Please share with your friends and family.

Thomasene is the mother of two sons. Her youngest son is a dependent “special needs” adult, who is very close to his mother.
