Daniel: The Writing on the Wall – [Get Notes From This Class]

The book of Daniel is one of the most inspiring and yet misunderstood books in the Bible. No other Old Testament book does more to show that God is sovereign over the nations and the destinies of men. The man Daniel stands as a powerful example of faithfulness and quiet courage in the midst of intense trials. Taken captive as a young man and deported to serve in the court of foreign kings, his calm determination to serve his God lasted through a long and productive life. We will study Daniel the man, Daniel the prophet, and Daniel the example of lifetime faithfulness. We will also look at the panoply of surrounding characters and how God interacted with all of them ‐ from world leaders to everyday people thrust into situations of intense spiritual import. We will also discuss how to interpret Daniel as a prophetic book, and properly evaluate its message for future generations.

Becoming One

This class is a follow up to the Dynamic Marriage class we had in the autumn of 2010. It is based on the book “Becoming One” by Joe Beam. While not as intensive in character as the Dynamic Marriage class, it will provide 8 weeks of review of materials on how to deepen your marriage and develop greater intimacy. The class is open only to couples who have previously taken the Dynamic Marriage class, whether with us this past autumn or some other time. Greg will order the books (text and workbook) for each couple taking the class. The cost is $37.50 per couple. Please contact him directly if you want to participate in this class.

Jesus with the People

Based upon the Bible and the book entitled, “Jesus with the People” written by Thomas and Sheila Jones (http://www.dpibooks.org), this study series is designed to delve into various interactions between Jesus and groups of people recorded in Holy Scripture. Given John 1:14 which reads: “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth” and that Jesus is the exact representation of God’s being (Heb. 1:3), there is much to learn about how Jesus lived among people and how he brought to life the Word of God and fulfilled prophecies foretold of him. It is our sincere hope that Christians will rediscover and continue seeking opportunities to imitate the powerful and indestructible life of Jesus as it relates to his interactions with people. We envision Christians will take advantage of every opportunity to impact their fellow man in their efforts to regard no one from a worldly point‐of‐view. Christians engaging in this study series will start to rekindle their passion and spiritual commitment for the ministry of reconciliation.

Letters of John

The Apostle John is known as the apostle of Love. John’s gospel and letters show this fisherman was transformed from one wanting to call down fire from heaven into one who patiently fed Jesus’ flock. Outliving the other apostles, Johns words convey an intense desire to see the body of Christ remain rooted in Jesus, united, pure and devoted to one another. He writes his gospel so that we may believe that Jesus is the Christ; he writes his letters so we can understand Jesus’ love is not without effect, but calls us to imitate him in our life and relationships. John delves into deep waters addressing the divinity and humanity of Jesus, purity, forgiveness, fellowship, truth, the Spirit of God, the nature of God – and yes, LOVE. 1st, 2nd & 3rd John explain and apply his Gospel account, so as the book of Acts shows how the gospel launches the church, John’s letters show how the gospel continues to guide her. As we study these letters we will also be honing our Bible study skills for application in our personal studies. Join us for an exciting and enriching exploration of the Letters of John!

Worship & Praise

“I will sing to the Lord all my life;

I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.

May my meditation be pleasing to him,

as I rejoice in the Lord.” Psalm 104:33‐34

Throughout the scriptures, God’s people have expressed themselves to Him most clearly by singing: Moses, Miriam, David, Mary and Elizabeth and others. The largest book of the Bible is a collection of songs that pour out the authors’ deepest thoughts and emotions. Today, singing together in worship is one of the most powerful ways in which we can reach our true audience‐ God Himself. This class is intended for new and returning singers who are interested in

‐ learning to develop their singing voice

‐ learning more about the spiritual act of singing in worship

‐ learning new songs

‐ learning to sing as part of an ensemble (being in the choir is an absolute BLAST!!!)

‐ serving God’s Church by giving of their talents and abilities

Young Families

Strong, vibrant and godly families are the plan and will of God. As a parent, what are the best ways to establish a nurturing environment where God can shape our characters and family relationships? How do we manage work, school, homework, family time and spiritual time? While each family is different, God’s principles and His expectations of us as a parent are unwavering. Together we will seek God’s wisdom in the scriptures on how to be the best parent and spouse that we can be. We will explore the issues our families face today with practical, specific and godly advice. The class will be taught by two of our Elders and their wives in a discussion format with ample time for questions and answers. The class will focus on families with school‐age children up through pre‐teens. We believe that in even these eight short weeks, by applying God’s Word to yourself and to your family, you will experience the joy of growth and change by the power of God. “The ark of God remained with the family of Obed Edom in his house for three months, and the LORD blessed his household and everything he had.” 1 Chronicles 13:14
