Prayer Requests

Angie Wadsworth’s father, Jorge Menjivar, is in a nursing home in Massachusetts and has tested positive for COVID-19. Prayers are requested on his behalf during this challenging time.

Lisa Washington tested negative for Covid-19! She just received the results!  Please pray for Lisa to recover from a sinus and ear infection.

NEW CHURCH LOGO!

As some of you may have noticed in the recent email…we have a new logo. I would love to tell you that this was released on purpose, but apparently the excitement was just too hard to contain!!!

So, let this communication stand as the official announcement that The Athens Church of Christ has a NEW logo.

This logo didn’t just come from thin air either. There was a team of folks working hard to take who we are as a church and as followers of Jesus and condense it into a single image. Here is the explanation behind the icon creation and font choices:

The cross logo is composed of convergent lines meeting at the center. This represents and reflects Athens Church of Christ’s commitment and central focus on the cross of Jesus. It is also built using diverse parts of varying sizes and shapes, symbolic of the diverse nature of the body of Christ. Though many parts, we come together to form one body. The font choices reflect a retention of the classical style of the original logo (a preservation of its history), with a modern addition of the subfont which can be used throughout print, website, and other mediums to give a modern balance. The “ATHENS” font choice is recognizable as a UGA font with a classic flair, and is similar to the original font of the current logo. The all caps symbolize strength, stability and balance. The blue color choice is a calming, quieter blue and provides a peaceful backdrop for the cross in white, symbolic of its purity.

The logo is just the first step in a number of changes that are being made to our overall look and communications going forward. Over the next few weeks and months you will see things like a new website, signage, email templates, etc. Everywhere our logo resides will eventually get a face lift. We hope that you are as excited to see it as we are to share it.

Sincerely,
ACOC Branding Committee

Showing Hospitality to our Neighbors

Happy Easter everyone!  https://youtu.be/B1jIutMY8wU is a link to a YouTube video showing how our building is currently setup for guests and volunteers of Family Promise.  Hopefully it will answer some questions about how we are serving as the host facility.  We’re following CDC guidelines for maintaining social distancing and sanitizing areas used.
There are many opportunities and different ways for everyone to help.  If with another adult, a teen can be the second person volunteering during daytime hours. Overnights, we still prefer two adults present or a family can make it a sleepover in the 1st & 2nd grade classroom!

Finally, here is the link to sign up for volunteer opportunities (http://bit.ly/FPApril). You will note this includes a link to a new online training video for new volunteers that has been developed by Family Promise National.

Please feel free to pass this invitation on to local friends, family, or coworkers and do not hesitate to email, text, or call Steve Gibson with any questions.  Thank you so much!

ACOC PRAYER AND FASTING
In an effort to be faithful, reliant on our God, and spiritually proactive, the leaders of the Athens Church of Christ are calling on the disciples in our congregation to join us in a weekly special time of fasting and prayer to combat the Corona pandemic. We will be fasting every Sunday evening after sundown to Monday evening after sundown until the coronavirus crisis is over. If for some reason you cannot join the rest of the church in fasting and prayer at that time then feel free to choose a different time during the week to do so. We hope everyone will elect to join us in this spiritual effort.
