Prayer Requests & Updates

Important Victor Payton Update:
Thank you all so much for the love and support you’ve shown so far. Unfortunately, at this time Victor is too weak to receive visitors or household helpers. Please take the time that you would have been visiting or serving the family to pray for peace, comfort, wisdom, and strength.

The Armstrong family would love your prayers as Lacy will be having pelvic reconstructive surgery next Thursday, September 30. Please pray for the doctor to see clearly what needs to be repaired and for complete healing. Cards may be sent to Lacy at 1171 Kenway Drive, Watkinsville, GA 30677.

Mollie Mostert will have a spine procedure on Monday, September 27th at Emory. This is for a spine stimulator implant for pain relief. in the last attempt in March, the surgeon could not wrap the wires around her vertebrae because they are too deteriorated. This time, a neurosurgeon will attempt to do the implant, using a different method. Your prayers are greatly appreciated. Cards may be sent to Mollie at 245 Holmes Avenue, Athens, GA 30606.

Please continue to pray for those in our congregation and many other family members and friends that are sick with Covid.

Starting Sunday evening 9/26 through late afternoon on Sunday 10/3, we get the privilege to serve several families currently experiencing homelessness here in Athens.  There are many different ways to serve in a variety of formats that will easily fit your schedule and life situation. This will take place at the current static site which is Milledge Avenue Baptist Church. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have ANY questions or if you need me or Rachele to partner and serve with you for the first time.  Thanks so much!

Your congregation’s support of Family Promise of Athens is what makes our work possible! The hundreds of volunteers from our community enable us to care for the families in shelter care (IHN) as well as those we are assisting in homeless prevention, diversion, and sustaining. We hold two fundraising events each year. Our fall event is a golf tournament. Last year the pandemic forced us to cancel. We relied on generous donors who assisted in making up some of the lost revenue. This year we are moving forward for the biggest and best tournament yet! We are currently recruiting players and sponsors. We are hoping to have players from all of our supporting congregations.
Grace and Peace,

HOUSE CHURCH SUNDAY

September 26th

There will be a house church meeting at the church building on Sunday at 10:30 am. If you need a place to go, you are welcome to join them!

Sisters, “God’s Girls” would love for you to join us in the church courtyard on Thursday mornings beginning Oct. 7th from 11 a.m. to noon as we discuss the book Captivating, Unveiling the Mystery of a Woman’s Soul by John and Stasi Eldredge (available on Amazon).

This book is less a Biblical study and more of an exploration and celebration of the feminine heart – a heart created by God to bear his image in our own, unique, feminine way.  How is our expression of God’s character different from a man’s? What desires did God create in women that are different from those of men, thus revealing different facets of his heart and character? How do our inner desires and longings lead us to God or lead us to sin? This is a book of self discovery, thoughts to ponder about how uniquely God created us as women.  In coming to better know our inner longings, we come to better know ourselves and the God who created us.  Our spiritual journeys are illuminated – we see more clearly our responses to life, to its joys and its sorrows, and to the temptations of the world.   Most importantly, the longings of our heart lead us to God, our rescuer from the world, our healer from pain, shame, and guilt, our champion who does for us what we cannot on our own.  He is the God who sees us, who frees us, and empowers us to truly live.
