Around the world, millions of boys and girls are lost, abandoned or orphaned. God speaks to us through scripture about these needy, oppressed, hungry, and unloved children. When each one finds a place to rest at night, they often go to bed broken-hearted and crushed in spirit because their longing for a family has again been delayed. With the resilience that only children can have, they greet each new morning with the hope that today God will send someone to rescue them. Scripture tells us that in view of God’s mercy we should offer our lives as “living sacrifices” (Romans 12: 1). One way of doing this is by looking after orphans in their distress (James 1:27) and to seek justice for and defend the cause of the fatherless (Psa. 82:3).
We see them from the comfort of our homes on our televisions via Oprah, the nightly news channels, 20/20, and National Geographic specials. They are on the cover of Time and Newsweek and Hollywood studios make movies about them. We see them and they are on our minds…we must keep them in our hearts. You can be a difference-maker in their lives; you can help fulfill their longing by fostering, adopting, giving financially, or otherwise supporting their cause through others.
In August 2004 the Athens Adoption Ministry was started with a mission to inspire, inform and support the cause of orphans…one child at a time. This ministry is making a difference: you can, too. Keep our ministry, and the needs of the orphans, in your mind, heart and prayers. There are many ways to help and to serve. Contact any member of the Adoption Ministry to see what you can do!
